Instructions
1. Cook the Salisbury steaks in a skillet with 3 tablespoons of oil until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil, sliced onions, and mushrooms. Cook until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are tender, about 5 minutes.
3. Stir in the beef broth, tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
4. Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the steaks to cook through and the sauce to thicken.
5. Mix the cornstarch with a little water or beef stock until smooth, then stir into the sauce to thicken. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce reaches desired consistency.
6. Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, smothered in the rich mushroom and onion sauce.
Notes
For an extra flavorful sauce, use high-quality beef broth and fresh mushrooms. Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles to soak up the rich sauce.
