Grandma’s Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients
  

  • 1.75 cups Buttermilk
  • 1 large Egg (optional)
  • 4.25 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 3 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 5 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Raisins (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare baking pan.
  • Whisk buttermilk and egg. Mix dry ingredients, cut in butter.
  • Combine wet and dry, shape into a loaf, score with 'X'.
  • Bake 45-55 minutes until golden. Cool before slicing.

Notes

Freezes beautifully! Serve with stew or jam.
